• 2026-27 Measuring Love Cohort Application

  • Join Grantmakers for Effective Organizations in partnership with Audrey Jordan, Shiree Teng and the Measuring Love Team to learn and practice core concepts from Burning Love: An Invitation to Transformative Action, the third of the Measuring Love brown paper series. 

    We invite you to complete this application if you are a grantmaker or consultant in the field of philanthropy who is seeking:

    • resources to examine the mindsets that shape our relationships with ourselves and others;
    • love principles you can directly apply to your practice that brings together the relational, cultural and operational dimensions of philanthropy for the benefit of communities;
    • relationships with peers to co-create a confidential, candid community where you can learn, grow and be held accountable.

    Please note that the Measuring Love Cohort is open to both GEO members and member-eligible non-members. If you have questions about GEO membership, please contact shepherd@geofunders.org.

    This cohort is designed for one participant from each organization or consultancy, but we are open to having up to three participants from one entity. Each person from a team must complete a separate application.

    Applicants must be able to commit to the following:

    Participation in five sessions:

    • A two-hour virtual launch party on September 10 at 12:30pm ET to meet the facilitators and your fellow cohort members, and to support co-creation of the cohort experience
    • The in-person opening session from Wednesday, October 7 to Thursday, October 8 in Washington, DC
    • The second and third sessions 3.5-hour virtual sessions from 12:30pm - 4pm ET on:
      • Thursday, January 28
      • Thursday, March 18
    • The in-person closing session from Monday, May 24 to Tuesday, May 25 in St. Louis, MO (followed by the GEO Learning Conference)

    Full participation in activities between sessions, including Learning Partner calls, readings from the Measuring Love publication series and guided reflection.

    Preparation of a final action plan that you will identify and refine throughout the cohort experience. All cohort members will leave with a clear plan to support their ongoing change work and love practice.

    Program fee:

    The program fee covers virtual and in-person programming, materials, and all meals and drinks during in-person sessions. Cohort participants are responsible for covering travel and lodging.

    For each question, please submit a written response around 75-150 words as indicated, or if you prefer, an audio or video recording of no more than two minutes. You'll find that these questions refer to concepts from the Measuring Love brown paper series, though previous engagement with its content is not required. For reference, please note that Radical Love at the individual level means rejecting having been conditioned to subordinate our own sense of self and power, and instead elevating both as a way to contribute to the world we deserve. This cohort seeks to achieve those aims alongside other Radical Lovers, as a potent force at the collective level.

    The cohort program fee is based on the guidelines below. Acceptance into the cohort requires realizing payment between by October 5, 2026. Please note that the program fee covers the cost of in person and virtual program sessions, materials, and meals and drinks during in-person gatherings. You are responsible for covering travel and lodging for the in-person opening and closing sessions.
  • For grantmakers, please use your giving range (e.g. grants, discretionary, FOI, etc.) to determine your program fee amount.
